is there any issue with running VisSim 4.0 on a Core 2 Duo? we have a couple of engineers that use it here but the CPU usage only appears to go up to 50%. we have tried changing the affinity to use both cores but still it will at most only use 1 of them. is there a patch that could fix this issue?
Many thanks

Forum: VisSim

Please explain VisSim time step vs DspInterface block "sample rate"

Hi

Can u please explain to me what is the relevance of simulation

frequency when I am running the code in a DSP. Does the simulation time step has any effect in DSP interface mode? Say I can set the PWM block base frequency at a value much higher than the simulation frequency. Is this fine? In this case the DSP has to actually take action at the PWM base frequency. If I have integrators in my system will they work only at simulation frequency? In that case the system response will be slow.

In case of ADC sampling rate above the simulation frequency, what is the effect?

Good Day

Viswanathan
Forum: VisSim

problem in viewing waveforms on plot

Hi all,
i am using a trial version of vissim and using pmsm31_b3 diagram(space vector modulation). i actually connected a bldc motor to dsp and could run the motor in open loop but when i try to view any waveform for example current waveform or pwm waveforms in the plot they appear stretched out so i cant view them properly at a stretch in the plot.
i have selected realtime option in the simulation properties and i am also using monitor buffers to connect signals to the plot but still the problem persists.
i think i am not able to define the x -axis i.e the time axis properly.
if anyone has had a similar problem please help me.

Forum: VisSim

Relative path to bitmap in animate block sometimes failed

Hi,

I tried to use relative pathes in animate blocks, but very often the bitmap was not drawn (file not found?).

here my tree for example:

+- MainFile.vsm
|
+- _reUse
     |- DotRedD.bmp

So, I place an animate block in MainFile.vsm (on toplevel) and set path to ".\_reUse\DotRedD.bmp".

But this failed. One times the bitmap was drawn, when I tried "..\_reUse\DotRedD.bmp" ( there was no file!?).

Does swap the current working directory sometimes? And how I do it right?

(I use VisSim V7.0A12)

Forum: VisSim

Hello all, I'm new to VISSIM and am using it on a school computer for a class project. I've set up 3 simulations including one for base conditions, saved them all, and closed the program. Now when I try to open my simulations to edit them I receive the following error: "Maximum number of link types = 2 in this VISSIM license!"

I am now unable to open my simulations at all. Do any of you know a way past this error, or maybe exactly what it means? Thank you for your help with this!

Forum: VisSim

lineDraw Block - scrolling in display mode

I have been having problems with keeping lineDraw blocks where they ought to be on the screen.
What seems to happen is that when in display mode all the blocks move together except the lineDraw ones when the page is scrolled. They 'get stuck' and finish up in a totally new position - they all appear to usually move by the same amount. But it is frustrating having to keep moving them back to where they should be. I've also had them move off screen totally so they are then inaccessible.
It looks like a bug to me - any solution?

Forum: VisSim

Importing Simulink Model

I tried to import a very basic Simulink model to test out the process. Basically, the simulink model was a step input to a transfer function block to a scope.

When I import using the Vissim Simulink import feature, I get this very cryptic message.

could not complete conversion of the SIMULINK model

Syntax problem in line: 5

{ expected

Also, the import log is below.

----------------Compiling...

Line 4 : warning: the common parser was loaded. Requested parser

I am not sure what is going on. Did I install Vissim incorrectly.
My control algorithm runs OK in sim. mode on my PC, but runs very slowly, or not at all, on my target board

a.k.a., How fast can I run my controller on the DSP board?

Since this is becoming a common question from users of our VisSim/ECD product, we've decided to create a "post" from an engineer's response to a user on this subject...

... You have set the sample rate for your control algorithm at 1MHz. On a 150 MHz part like the F28335, that gives you only 150 CPU instructions per timer interrupt. Subtract 15 instructions for interrupt-handling overhead, divide the remainder by 4 and you get 35 blocks. At this sample rate, you have time to execute only 35 blocks maximum. Any more blocks, and the algorithm gets bogged down on the board.

In addition, your diagram has divides, sin, sqrt, & integrators. Each of these corresponds to about 30-35 instructions (not 4) because there is no hardware instruction for them. (Note that using the block instead of the block does not buy you any speed increase.)

My guess is that the fastest you can sample your algorithm in it's current state is about 100 kHz.

Do you really need a 1 MHz sample rate for your control?...

Hopefully, this will provide guidance in sample rate selection and trouble-shooting slow, or non-existent board performance.

Rich

Forum: VisSim
